Reid's Ice Cream is located in Blue Point LI. It was a warehouse to store Ice cream from Reid's in Brooklyn. It was closed down in the 20;s and demolished over a year ago to put in residential housing. We are sorry to see it go.

There are 2 main legends surrounding this place. One is the possible death of a dancer / stripper in the 50's. Supposedly she went into Reid's one night, presumably to be "alone" with a man and was killed. There are some who say they have heard a woman screaming and crying. Some also say they have seen a woman walking around and we even had a story submitted to us surrounding the place. See "The Woman With no Eyes" for more details.

The other legend is about a young boy that died there. Rumors vary on the details. Some say he was a retarded boy that would play on the tracks and failed to move out of the way of an incoming train. Some say he was just a boy that wandered into the place when it was closed and ended up getting killed by some of the equipment. Either way there are those who claim to have explored there and who have heard laughter, humming, and the patter of small feet.

We actually ran into a witness of odd happenings there. While Reid's was still intact we went to check it out and there were some contractors looking at the place. They would not tell us their purpose for being there but once we started to tell them the stories one of the contractors said that this explained what had happened to them earlier. Around 9 or 10 AM as they were setting up the large, heavy loading dock door began to shake. It continued and became more pronounced and violent. One of the contractors went outside to check and they saw no train passing nor was there any wind. After a moment it just stopped shaking.

We also found something odd one night. Someone had made effigies with creepy Halloween hands and stuffed arms and legs like a scarecrow out of odd clothes, garbage bags, and costumes. This made a very creepy addition to the Reid's atmosphere.

Also one person was with us on another trip and she had no idea of the history whatsoever but she refused to park alongside the property because she said she felt scared and she would not step into the property but preferred to look from across the street. This was after Reid's was demolished and house construction had begun. There was nothing "creepy" looking to tip her off.
